TrailPlace forums?

Can someone here explain how those other forums work? There doesn’t seem to be much activity over there. I submitted a post (my first, as this one is here) and received a note that the moderator would have to check it over first. I think it’s been one day. Am I just too impatient?

I am not familiar with that particular forum, but I can tell you that moderation of new member posts is an important defense against automated spam attacks (or spambots), which are getting to be a real problem lately. Backpackinglight got hit a number of times with several hundred spam posts per hour, and they had to limit posting only to those with paid subscriptions.

One wonders if the BPL forum spam might have been generated by the BPL accounting office in the name of revenue enhancements.

Thanks, granny and fern. I agree with G’s benefits of moderation (Let’s see, was it the Epicureans who held that moderation is a good thing?). I’ve seen potentially valuable lists destroyed by ads for unrelated products, etc. But it’s been 3 days now…

Last I checked, Trailplace was synonymous with Wingfoot and Wingfoot is no longer synonymous with the AT. Take that for whatever its worth.

Thanks, indigo. I’m new to the AT community, though of course I have heard of Wingfoot.

Trailplace is basically dead. A lot of good information was deleted by WF when he sold the site to 501. Nothing has been done to the site since 501 sold it to 7sisters 2 years ago. Head over to Whiteblaze.net if you need info on the AT.

Is WF’s middle initial a “T” or what? Geesh…
