Travel Dates frm Den to Breck

Hi, tried searching for my answer but didn’t get the specifics I was looking for, here are my trip cliff notes. My father (60) myself (28) will be starting off the CT in Denver on (see question 1) I plan to end my trip in Breckenridge (see question 2) and fly back to MN while my father will continue on the trail to Durango… so… see questions below… thanks!

Question 1- we wanted to start this trip on or around June 10th… we have family in Breck and they said the first 7 segments should be pretty easy, not tons of snow like in the past years… for you that are out there or have even hiked the trail a bit this year what do you think?? June 10th an ok start date this year?

Question 2- Unlike my father I have to work… ugg… so, need to figure out travel dates. Here in MN we can easily do 15 miles in 6hrs… we don’t have mountains but some pretty good cliffs and hills… anyway… need to know approximate days from Denver to Breck, I’m estimating 7 full hike days??

Thanks guys and gals!

So far this year has indeed been a very low snow year. However it can and does snow well into June in the high country. So conditions now could change. I started my thru on June 23rd on an average year and hit snow in segment 6 over Georgia Pass. Segment 7 will also have snow over to Copper Mountain. It should be do-able but just count on some snow.

I took 8 days to get to Breck with a bad knee and sick as a dog. see trailjournals.com/woofer . But if you are not used to altitude it will really slow you down. Good luck.

7 days at 15 miles per day is very do-able. I wouldn’t count on 6 hour days, though.
