Anyone know what happened to Tribes, he was doing a 2005 Thru Hike, the last entry on his journal is 04-04-05. Thanks in advance.

I got off the trail for a variety of reason in Northern Georgia at Dick’s Creek Gap. I have the last few days of journals and will post them when I get time. It was humbling to be so so ready for this hike. To have failed on this attempt was a bit too much for me to bear in the weeks after leaving the trail so I never posted anything out of humiliation. Now I realize that no matter how prepared you are for the trail, sh*t happens, all the time out there. I have no regrets now and that is all that matters. I will continue my neverending stream of section hikes and will again someday get out for the long haul.

Brother Tribes:
Every week or so I meet someone who says, “I always wanted to hike the trail, but I guess I’m too (substitute any number of things here) to do it now.” The only one who failed is the person who dreamed the dream, but never got off of the couch.
You know, I nearly gave up my dream at Dicks Creek Gap, but being the masochist that I am, I got back on after a week and continued north. There is some really nice trail waiting for you north of US 76.
Let us know how it turns out.

Dude, I wish that I could even make the first steps on one of those trails with the intent to go the distance. If I did even just that I would consider myself content.
You just dont know how many of us follow yours and others trail journals wishing we could be out there with you.
You’ll make it…

Spoke with you earlier in the year just as you were getting ready to ship out. I am the guy, Coyote, who uses your picture of West Mountain, Harriman State Park, as wallpaper on my computers. I also feel i can relate to you and we could have much in common. We seem to live close, I live in Monroe NY, trail passes right thru here. You’re in Jersey, right? I am not going to say to bad you came off, it might be what you needed at the time. The experience always remains. Maybe we can hike Jersey/NY togeather some day, soon. I can email you if you would like.

I had to get off in 04. It’s sad, definitely, but shouldn’t be humiliating. People who would give someone garbage about having to leave the Trail don’t know the first thing about long-distance hiking.
