Trip report - John Muir Trail

Just finished up the JMT… 7/24 - 8/9 it was sweeeet. I guess this is the short version: Mosquitoes were bad but not unbearable. Worse in some places than others. If it was bad someplace you would just keep moving to another. It was warm. Much warmer than expected. typical was 80 during the day and 50 at night. Although it got down in the 60s during the day and low 40s at night sometimes. Brought way too much food. Ended up dumping 4-5 pounds of food at my MTR resupply to bring it down to about 3200 cal/day. VVR was great. Really glad I stopped there. Met lots of nice people and got to eat great food. Their pancakes are an inch thick! Didn’t have any problems with bears. Never ate at camp and put canisters away from camp. Didn’t have any problems with altitude. Started slow in Yos Valley to acclimatize than picked up the pace. Got 7 blisters in the first week but then my feet toughened up and I didn’t have any problems with my feet on the second week of the trip. Weather was generally perfect - blue skies, no clouds, but had a few cloudy days and it rained a few times. Snow wasn’t bad. It was kinda fun actually. River crossings were not a problem. There was only maybe 5 times during the trip that I was not able to cross on logs or rocks and keep my feet dry.

The scenery up there is just unbelievable. Like another world. Already planning my trip for next year
