Has anyone ever experienced any negative experience with shuttle service along the Appalachian Trail? How can I get this question to more Appalachian Trail Hikers?

Sure there is always some percentage of hikers who are disappointed with a shuttle service, mostly because the shuttle was a few hours late or never came. everybody else is happy as a clam because they either got a shuttle or a hitch to where ever they were going. As far as thru hikers most don’t give a rats behind about shuttles. For them shuttles are a convenience but most every thru will do a lot of hitching for resupply or gear fixes so if there is not shuttle they just put out a thumb.
There is only one place I know of that hikers should be weary of, Hiawassee GA. There is a guy who often hangs out at the pass trying to shuttle people. It is reported that he charges $20 a person (not a car load which is highway robbery) and will try to sell you drugs which he then never produces. As I understand it, the cops have been called on him but he’s local and has the right to be on public land. I’ve never met the guy but this is what I hear through the AT grapevine.

Being local won’t go over with the federal judge. It’s illegal to attempt to solicit or distribute illicit drugs on national forest land. It’s also illegal to run a for-profit shuttle operation without a business license. And it’s illegal to run any sort of private capitalist venture on national forest land without a permit. A few more complaints and this guy could be pinging his way through the court system in short order. What’s his name?

The guy has been doing this for a few years, the first time I meet him it was on my 06 thru-hike he tried to sell me some weed, I told him to buzz off then I meet the guy again on my 2012 thru he tried the same thing and I told him the same thing but there was this lone female hiking just a few minutes behind me the guy tried to solicite her for sex she immediately called the police they came talked to the guy, gave him a written warning, that was it.
