Down by Reds Mhetto and Devils postpile there are about 10 shuttle stops on a loop that takes you from them to the Mammoth Mountain Inn at the Mammoth Mtn Ski area. The bus runs at least every half hour maybe more. Round trip is 7 bucks. That area is a dead end road in a valley. The bus takes you over a pass to The ski area base, where there is a expensive 150+ a night hotel and a restaurant and absolutely nothing else. From there there is a free bus every 30 minutes to the town of Mammoth Lakes 6000 people only 4 miles away. there is a ton of traffic on this road from the ski area to town and people will pick you up. I worked at the ski area for 4 years and hitch it all the time. I allow 10 minutes to get picked up. If you catch the free bus to town it will connect with another free bus that will take you to the grcery store health food store and every where else. Transportation is easy in Mammoth I drove the busses there till they laid me off so I know.

The Y.A.R.T.S. ( yosemite area regional transit) runs at about 7:30 Am from the Mammoth Mountain Inn to Yosemite. Don’t now if it works after Labor day, but assume it doesn’t. Just hitch hike this stretch, or do the 30 something mile hike to T- mhettos from mammoth. To hitch make a sign That says “Yosemite” and stand on the main drag through Mammoth just in front of the McDonalds. There is a lot of traffic from Mammoth to Yosemite. I havent owned a car in years. If your rich and dont want to hitch hike or take a bus just use the Mammoth Taxi (760)934-taxi but hitching will get you there just fine and is perfectly legal.

Google YARTS for schedule. Looks like they will tun on Labor Day and then week-ends only in Sept.
