Tusayan resupply

So is there a reason it seems most people resupply at grand canyon village instead of tusayan? I have to imaging there is a better selection of groceries and supplies in tusayan than there is in the national park. Am I missing something?
Happy hiking.

There is a big grocery store in Tusayan with everything you could want. However, there is also a big grocery store with everything you could want at the village. Prices are comparable. Although there are some large, fancy resort type hotels in Tusayan, there is also a moderately priced one ($50 for 2 in 2006).

The grocery inside the park is closer to the trail and is reached by foot or shuttle. This was an advantage to me.

The small grocery store in Tusayan and the store in Market Plaza in the park are both run by Delaware North Co. The store in the park is used by the 2000+ park residents so it is actually bigger than the one in Tusayan. The park store has produce, dairy, meat, everything that you would find in a major store plus lots of junk food for the tourists. Prices are higher than in a major city, but not outrageous.

I just spent 3 weeks in the canyon and they just remodled the store. They were short of everything and had little in the way of fresh items. When i left there a week ago it looked like it was almost put back together. Its no bigger just new shelves and new flooring. First timers here to the canyon remember you have a deli in the store and in the bright angle lodge the bar is open at 6 am, not for booze Roni but serves a great continal bkfst. Remember to try calling for a permit to camp when your in Flag as they do try to work with AZ Trail folks.
