Anybody ever put some grommets on a piece of tyvek?

Yes you can buy a cheep grommet kit from a place like campor and rig up a tarp this way. You may wish to take small swaths to double up where you punch in the holes. However, while I paid around 60 dollars for a sil/nylon 8X10 tarp back in 2000 it is still going strong even after 7500 miles of hiking. Another draw back to tyvek in my opinion is how loud it is when new not to mention it does not blend into the enviroment. Kind of flies in the wind of steatlh camping. But yes it will work.

Yes, I tried inserting a few grommets in anticipation of making a tarp. I found that the grommets significantly weakened the material despite doubling and tripling the fabric over. The better solution for me was to wrap the material around a penny and then anchor the line to that.

Make loops with good quality grossgrain ribbon. Wash the tyvek a few times and it will dramatically reduce the noise.
