I believe the answer to your first question is that it is safe, and the idea of it being a health hazard was a rumor. I don’t know for sure though.

Now, Question 2. What happened to Jaws?

Well, in the first one, he gets a scuba tank shoved in his mouth which is then shot, exploding him into many pieces. In part 2, he swims toward vibrations he senses in the water, comes up, and clamps down on an live electical cable, frying him. Yum. Seafood. And in Jaws: The Revenge (This time it’s personal), he gets impaled by a woman who has simply had enough. Of what? I don’t know…Jaws movies?

Hope this answers your question.

Leki-Less: That was hilarious.

The Nalgene thing has been
discussed before. I think the major problem with Nalgene bottles is that they weigh 10 times as much as Aquafina bottles.

This from Hydro April 8-journal In Virgina.

“Another surprise, Jaws is here! He has shaved his trail beard off, and I can’t help but exclaim “You Look Different!” Last time I saw Jaws was at Miss Janet’s in Erwin, Tennessee. We indulge in a little trail gossip, who is where, what happened to so and so. It is what the hiking community does.”

I still like my Nalgene for making my sleepy-time tea at night and using it to warm me and my sleeping bag on cold nights. Hard to do that with the standard plastic bottle.

I agree, I can’t count the number of times I’ve made coffee in my Nalge, among the Gator Aide, Jello, and other items I’ve had in it, and there is still no residual trace.

I’ll keep one with me on the trail, despite the weight.
