Tyvek - Appalachian Trail

I got some tyvek from a siding job site. It seems kind of noisy when I use it as a ground cloth. Is this normal or do you do something to it before you use it? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question but I can’t see sleeping on it with the noise every time you move. Thanks for your help.

Er, yeah; there are different weights of the stuff. Stuff for kites isn’t stiff and crinkly. www.kitebuilder.com/catalog/index.php/cPath/24_162?osCsid=a99dafd11291e82d20597480df8b081e

Material Concepts materialconcepts.com sells soft tyvek ground sheets. Put them in the wash and they come out baby soft. They hold up well even after countless washings. However, my tyvek ground sheet weighed 7.2 ounces after trimming. I now use a space blanket for a ground sheet at 3.5 ounces.

you need the type, as bw said, for kites and banners…VERY soft, warm and snugly (though not completely waterPROOF…the last piece we bought (for 2) was in '06 from “QUEST” in sarasota florida…it cost about 13.00 for a couple of yards of 60 inch width (i think)…it does NOT “rattle” and is really handy on those dirty shelter floors!..we used ours in combination, believe it or not, with those reflective windshield thing-ys that you put on the dash of your car to keep it cool…they fold up, are lightweight and durable, waterproof and provide a little insulation…

I’ve used an emergency Blanket for a ground cloth for years. They are cheap, lite and I think warmer in cold weather. Also easy to replace tho my first one lasted a long time I finally replaced it because all the silver was wearing off.
