Tyvek for Groundcloths

Hey there,

Any of you looking for Tyvek for groundcloths that dont want to buy a 150’ roll? If so, give me a yell!

I sell it for $1.75/ft. So for example, each 1 ft piece would be 1’x9’ and would cost $1.75 (plus shipping). Up to 15ft, shipping would be $6 priority. More than that would be a tad more.

If you are interested, let me know. My email is opiewan@gmail.com I also sell on Ebay.

Thanks,

David

Let’s see… If a piece 1’x9’ is $1.75 than a piece 4’x9’ would be 4x$1.75 or $7.00. Is this a trick question?

Would tyvek be suitable for use as a tarp? Is the material waterproof? I would need to use it for a 6 day hike in the Sonoran Desert in Northern Baja.

I have been told it works great for tarps. I have only used for tent groundcloths or a groundsheet under a sleeping bag.

so how much does 1’ weigh? Or any known # of feet. I think I can handle the math

I just sent off a 6’x9’ or 54sq ft piece that weighed 1lb 15 oz (including mailing envelope).

i was surprised in a rainstorm once and used tyvek to cover me up, and i got soaked, i’ll just stick to using it for a groundcloth

I think Rowdy was asking about tyvel, not tyvek;)

Tyvek is most definetely not waterproof. It works great as a groundcloth is most situations, but when set up on very wet ground, it will soak thru. I use a plastic groundsheet (2 or 4 mil, available at hardware stores) for situations when i am planning on getting wet often, for example, Washington in September.
