Is a ULA Catalyst a good thru-hiking pack? I am thinking of buying one. Does anybody know much about this pack? Does anybody own one that they hike with? If yes, how is it? any pros/cons? Thanks.

Yep, I bought one a couple of years ago. Light weight and still has enough support to carry up to 40 lbs comfortably. Why would you need to carry 40lbs? Well it was made to carry that much if you hike in the desert and need to carry a lot of water. Make sure you order the dual stays, or you won’t be able to carry more than 30lbs comfortably. Brian makes a great pack, and you won’t be sorry you bought one. Also the hip belt pockets are the bomb.

It is a good pack with the frame-sheet & stays it can carry up to 40 pounds (like I had to when hiking in a drought and always had to have full water bladders.) I normally only carry 20-30 when fully packed for 5 days. The pack rides well. I just brought one for my husband. :girl HH

I’ve had one for 2 years. If fits me very well, it’s highly adjustable like any good pack, I’ve had no problems with mine. I agree with Doc, I use the belt pockets and the mesh side pockets a lot.
Brian Osborne
I have never had a pack that I liked half as much as my Catalyst. I’ve never thru hiked with it, but I am this year. I truly feel (for me) that it is the best pack out there. Brian, at ULA, also has the best customer service. I will always use his products.
Poot
I’m in the process of saving for a ULA Circuit (being a sectioner, I don’t need quite the capacity of a thru-hiker) because of the fine work that Brian does at ULA. I’ve already modified my old Golite Gust with many of the Catalyst/Circuit features, but the real thing is better. Brian makes some of the best quality gear out there (I have one of the original H2O Amigo gravity filters and it’s fantastic) and he will stand behind his products 100%. There’s simply no better service than what Brain and ULA provide. This is a gear choice that you can’t go wrong with.
Strategic
I was a GoLite Gust hardcore for years before I finally decided to try the UL Catalyst. It’s much more comfortable than the Gust, because it takes alot more weight off your shoulders. In my opinion it’s worth the extra pound of weight, which was my big hangup before.
