How do people upload photos from the trail? I know some send the cards home to their transcriber. But for those that upload in libraries and such along the trail how do you do it? Even if I carry my USB connector, dont I need software to make it work? Dont I need to reduce the size for trailjournals?

I found a very neat device on someone else’s journal (I forget who’s.) It can be found here: (www.micro-solutions.com/roadstor/index.asp) Basically it is a portable CD burner that reads many types of memory cards. You can put it in a bounce box (along with your cameras battery charger), when you get to town you can burn a copy of your pictures, and mail them to your transcriber. I have not yet done this, but I plan to on my up coming PCT thru-hike. I cannot yet say how well this works, but I think it will work for me. :cheers

I’ve noticed some hikers upload images when they get into town. They either use the local libraries computer or one at a hostel. You would need a USB Card Reader for a Compact Flash Card. Something like this would work:

Red Hat. Click on the Search button at the top of this page and type in downloading pics or photos, there is a lot of information. There are many threads dealing with downloading your pictures.

Type in download pics instead of downloading pics.
