I use a tarp most nights but I found when it rain heavy, less rain will seem in underneath if I don’t use a tarp. It seems that the tarp holds the water while the ground absorbs it. So should I use a tarp or not under the tent and if so, any suggestions?

Using a tarp as a footprint protects your tent, but you have to make sure the tarp doesn’t stick out from underneath the sides of the tent. It catches the rain and funnels it right underneath you. That’s why custom footprints are a bit smaller than the tent they’re designed for.
