Utility: CT vs. PCT/AT

Economists call the satisfaction derived from an activity or a thing to be its “utility.” For example, a person may chose to go sailing rather than scrub his toilet on the weekend because he derives more utility from the former activity.

With this principle in mind, how much utility did you get from hiking the Colorado Trail, compared to the AT or PCT. You may need to adjust for length in formumlating your response.

I enjoyed the CT just as much as the Pct or AT.It was a very different experience cuz it is so much shorter.I think we saw 5 thru hikers that is it and camped only once or twice with other folks. For the most part it is a steep trail , It was Hope pass that I remember as the tuffest. There are folks out doing the 14ers… if that is your thing… we only did one by accident. I do remember quite a bit of woods walking… you got up high on the CDT…some of the towns are definitely yuppie and others very Western. I would do it again…:)… I must say I don’t have as many memories of it as the At or Pct…It has faded…

latest starting date, assuming an average to slower than average pace? I’ve heard last week of August, to avoid the deeper snows that don’t melt away. I’d welcome modest snows if I could plow through them and/or they’d melt off in a day or so, but not deep stuff that hangs around.
