Hey All, I am planning a trip some time this month and i’m thinking i’ll go on the long trail and or the AT. It’s my 2nd time backpacking and i was wondering if anyone had some suggestions for where to go? I’m thinking ill go for a week or so, not trying to go crazy with distance, just doing whats enjoyable and getting the most out of my time out there. Any suggestions would be great! Feel free to email me back- i don’t get online that often. rhodgson@putneyschool.org

Newbie, I just completed a north bound end to end section of the LT on Saturday. Had 3 exceptional days weather wise, nights are cold. Southern VT is still in nice shape, but being at the putney school you probably know that better than I.

My suggestion is to hike north on the LT/AT from Route 11/30 up to Forest Road 10 or beyond to Clarendon Gorge if you are hiking well. That is some great trail IMHO and you will be meeting some south bound LT thru-hikers as I met at least 6 of them heading south from Canada.

Good hiking.

Some of the favorite places on the AT/LT in Southern Vermont include the Stratton Pond, Little Rock Pond, and Griffith Lake.
