Volunteers Sought ATC project

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) is seeking volunteers to conduct invasive plant removal on Roan Highlands on Friday July 10 and Saturday July 11. The focus of this volunteer effort is to identify and remove coltsfoot and learn about the impacts these invasive exotic plants have on the native flora in the unique grassy bald habitat of Roan Highlands.

The workdays at Roan Highlands on July 10 and 11 will begin with a plant identification session and a discussion about the impacts of exotic plants led by expert instructors. This will be followed by a demonstration of management techniques, including the application of herbicide, before implementing chemical controls along the Appalachian Trail. Tools and equipment will be provided, but volunteers are asked to pack a lunch and water and bring a hat, long sleeved shirt, long pants and boots with socks. Volunteers should meet at Carver’s Gap at 10am or plan to leave Asheville at 8:15am. Carpooling from Asheville can be arranged.

Individuals or groups interested in volunteering, or seeking more information can contact the ATC Resource Management Coordinator John Odell by calling the regional office at (828) 254-3708.

I believe the smiley above would be an 8 followed by a closed paranthesis. So the ph# should be 828-254-3708. A quirk of the archaic TF software.
