Supposedly, there’s going to be a movie about Bill Bryson’s book “A Walk in the Woods”.
My question is simple -
Which do you want the movie to reflect better - the AT experience, or Bryson’s book?

He’s a good writer with a great sense of humor. I think the movie should be true to the book and not the trail as the book was Bryson’s personal experience of the trail which is just as valid as any thru hikers. HYOH, right everyone!
I’m not sure why everyone is so hostile towards the guy. I’m a thru hiker and I loved his book. :cheers

I think what a lot of hikers fear is that a film of the book will make for crowds of folk trying to hike the AT and making it even more of a traffic jam than it is in the worst of times at the most accessible points. The Trail will get overused at a truly monstrous level.
That’s what so many backpackers fear.
Bryson’s quite a good writer and I have no problem with him or his most famous book.

I don’t see millions of soft Americans rushing to hike our trail. Hopefully the movie will remind those of us who hike it of good times and similar memories.
