I am looking for a ultra light tent. Any comments on the Wanderlust, Tarptent or Six Moon tents are greatly appreciated. Any other suggestions on other tents are welcome as well. Thank you!

We have two of the three. We have a wanderlust 2-4-2 and a Tarptent squall. First, good luck getting a wanderlust tent - he’s slow and uncommunicative. But you can try… Took us about 8 months to get ours. It is a good tent, excellent ventilation, but poor wind stability. That’s why we got a squall. The squall is a wonderful tent (we have the sewn in floor, which we use without a ground gloth) with good stability. It is a bit small for 2 people, but we make due. Worth it for the lower weight. Haven’t had it out in a strong wind storm, but a few hail storms and rain. Held up really well. More condensation than the 2-4-2…

I love my Wunderlust Nomad Lite…but agree with the comments about the manufacturer…I’m not sure he is still in business as someone said his phone was disconnected.

Disagree about it being a problem in strong winds if set up correctly. In March, it took 3 of us to set it up in what felt like 40+mph winds and single digit temps. Although I slept in my clothes I had good protection.

When I was bragging about how much I loved my tent in my journal last year, I received a guestbook entry telling me “I would get wet.” So far so good.

Eric,

I am in the same boat you are and have been considering all three of these. Additionally, I would suggest adding the Warmlite 2X and 2R to the mix. They are more expensive, but I have talked with a number of folks (some from this site) that have had very positive things to say about these tents.

Let us know what you decide.

Dancing Light Gear. I don’t own any of their products but have heard good things about them and their service. They’re closed until fall, so if you need something right away, it won’t do any good.

I agree with Skeemer. I’ve slept in my Wanderlust Nomad well over 300 nights and I never get wet…even in really heavy rains. I even woke up one morning in Maine and had a small stream running under my tent from heavy rains and I still stayed dry. The only thing I did extra was to add side wall lift lines to it, but that was mainly because I’m tall. The lift lines really help to set up a tight tent though.

I have the 2-4-2 and love it. Has withstood heavy blowing rains and stayed dry. I try to find “stealth” sites with some natural protection from wind, so have never really tested it in high winds.Because of the shape, I believe it would survive high winds if pitched into the wind. Have had no serious problems with condensation. I too waited about 9 months & couldn’t call because answering machine was full.I wrote a certified letter & finally reached by phone.Claimed that phone was hit by lightning which screwed up his phone. Was fixed when I finally was able to contact last September. It is a quality product I believe worth the wait.I use when bugs or snakes may be a problem. Otherwise I use a tarp.

I own a Tarptent squall with the sewn-in floor, but mine was made before they offered the front moquitoe netting zipper. Henry says that I can send it back and have the zipper added. What are the pros and cons of having/not having the netting zipper? Is it really that big of a deal? It couldn’t add that much weight. Advise.

If you are actually using the Tarptent for 2 people, try the Cloudburst. My husband and I found it very roomy. Henry is very responsive and makes a great product.

I enjoy my Squall Tarptent. Ive used it on long stretches of the AT without any problems. It’s superlight… just under 2 lbs with sewn-in floor. Henry is the best guy ever, great customer service.
