I am going to be hiking a portion of the Arizona Trail (passages #22-#28) in October, weather permitting.

What tips do you have for that portion of the trail? Always good to get multiple opinions!!!

If you have to get water from a cattle tank, don’t use a filter. The stink will stay in your filter for the rest of your trip. Use pills, iodine, bleach, etc. I did a spring through hike and water was generally not an issue (except north of Jacob Lake). Carry two liters at all times and top them up each chance you get. With the recent heavy monsoons that AZ and NM have gotten, water sources should be better than when I went.

Solitude. You can go days at a time without seeing other people. That’s good news/bad news depending on your personality.
