WARNING! RE: Parking at Waterton Canyon

Just want to let everyone know my husband and I parked our vehicle at Waterton Canyon from 5/30 to today, 6/6 (one week) prior to beginning the trail tomorrow, 6/7.
When we returned today to check on it before starting tomorrow someone had tried to break in by busting out our driver’s door lock. Thankfully they weren’t able to (we didn’t leave anything of value in there anyway.)
We think they must have done it in broad daylight since the window wasn’t busted out.

Just please be cautious! We cleared EVERYTHING out of our vehicle and it was still tampered with.

I am really sorry to hear that this happened to you, but it is not a complete surprise to me. I posted on the subject a year or so again, and it should still be in the archives. There is absolutely no security in this parking lot, and on a day like today, there are hundreds of people using the lot. If you want to leave a car near Waterton Canyon, please email me, and we can work something else out. If I remember correctly, I gave a pretty stern warning on parking at the TH. Again, sorry this happened.

Just as an FYI. Posted in June of last year.

Transportation/Parking Details
Everything posted above is correct, but I want to add a couple of things: 1) If you park at the Waterton Canyon parking lot, I would strongly suggest parking your vehicle directly under one of the solar lights. This parking lot is not secure, and although this is a safe area, a whole lot of people visit this area for a whole lot of different reasons. Make sure you leave no valuables in the car. Many times, I have driven past the Waterton Canyon parking lot at night, and there is not a single car there. You’ve been warned. 2) I guess budget cutbacks forced the Denver RTD to cancel the direct express bus service to Mineral Station. Now, you need to take the airport bus downtown, and transfer to the light rail. Mineral station is the last stop on the light rail. 3)I would probably feel more secure parking at the park and ride lots, but there is a cost, and you still have to get yourself to the trailhead.
FWIW,
