Just got back from doing Timberline to the Columbia River. Get water whenever you can! It was hot and dry the whole way, till we hit Eagle Creek. Bugs were bad. It was the flies that got me, they kept biting even when walking.
The Zigzag is a step over for the most part, after that you see little water (3 streams, that are winding down to you get till just before the Sandy River) Rushing Creek at that point is great for water. Sandy was between mid thigh and knee for me for crossing the 2cnd channel. First channel was ankle deep.
Ramona Falls had great water.
Muddy Fork’s bridge is perfect. No water after that till Lolo pass, where a family at the pass let us take all the water we wanted from a 5 gallon jug in their car (woo-hoo!). There was a small trickle 4/10’s of a mile barely running after that.
Salvation Springs was the next water-a bug hell hole full of skeeter larva. But the water was running.
After that the spring mentioned a number of miles down the trail was barely trickling (off the trail, thru a white pipe).
Made it to Indian Spring and the water there was great.
Took Trail 435 Indian Springs down to connect with trail #440 then to Eagle Creek. #435 is dry, but in great shape! #440’s creeks were running.
