Water concerns elkpark to damascus

I am planning to hike Elk Park NC to Damascus Va from Aug 29 to Sept 2. There has been a severe drought in the piedmont of NC where I live and was wondering if conditions on that section of trail are ok. Thanks in advance for your help. Cutman.

Go to the ATC website. They have a section on the water situation along the trail. Also, you might call someone in Damascus such as the Mount Rodgers Outfitter and ask them.

I have been to the ATC website, but was hoping for more current info from someone who has hiked the section in the last few days. The ATC site has not posted a specific warning, but am I to assume the lack of one means all shelters and other sources are flowing fine?

I live in Damascus. Springs aren’t dry but they are low. You should have no problem.

Thanks Lone Wolf. Might be doing Damascus to Massie Gap last weekend in Sept. too. Think Mt Rogers Outfitters or someone there could shuttle me from Massie Gap to Damascus(so I can park at Massie Gap)? If you know of anyone would be happy to call them to arrange. Thanks again.

Myself or my lady friend can do it. just let us know a couple of days or so before you need to go. We won’t charge you. Maybe a cup of coffee for the road. E-mail me and I’ll give you our ph#.
