Water filter system

What is the advantage of a water filter system that uses a porcelin core as opposed to those that don’t. I know they weight more, but are they better in the long run? Thanks for the input.

I think that the ceramic core filters can be cleaned and reused if they clog up, thus giving them a much longer life than other noncleanable filters.

What is good for the long run is not always good for today. The extra weight of carrying all those heavyduty items on a daily basis does not add up to smart savings. I say all because it is the state of mind of durability. Next thing you know an old fasion canteen made out of metal that has been around since the 1930’s and still going strong might start to look good. Try a gravity filter from ULA or aqua mira and empty soda bottles for a start and continue to strive for lightweight items even if they might not last as long. Your body might just want to stay on the trail longer as a result. Happy hiking no matter what you end up carrying. 8)
