Water in PA - Appalachian Trail

I will be returning to the trail soon to cover PA, one of the sizable sections I did not do on last year’s thru. Does anyone have any up-to-the minute, eye witness intellegence to share re water availability in this area? The ATC website posted an update last week saying that recent rains had reivigorated some springs, but there are also many previous notices about many bone-dry springs. I use a Breeze, and the prospect of carrying a full day’s worth of H2O all the time makes my liver quiver.

I just happen to have been up there yesterday near the Outerbridge Shelter, south of Lehigh Gap/Palmerton. I met one hiker who said that most springs between there and Port Clinton were running good. I met another hiker who had come south from Delaware Water Gap to Lehigh Gap, and he said water was somewhat dry for him - but it always is in this section(The Superfund Site). I don’t have any info south of Port Clinton but I’d venture to guess that you shouldn’t have any problems.

On a side note, this year’s first thru hikers are passing into New Jersey today or tomorrow.

Enjoy it!

Papillon,

I was out on the PA AT yesterday (it was on Friday May 10) at Eagle’s Nest Shelter. The spring just before it was running great!

I saw my first thru-hiker of the year: Skyscraper (who has a journal here. I also saw flip/flop hiker, Serendipity and section hiker Redness Rushing. It was an awesome day!
