Water situation in TN

What’s the water situation north of the Smokies to Damascus? Are any usually reliable sources dry? The area is still listed as being in a serious drought.

Redwoods Gnome,
I was up above Hot Springs in July. Most of the smaller springs and water sources were dry. Those sources at the shelters were still mostly running, if slowly, with the exception of Jerry Cabin.
I advise you to call John at Uncle Johnny’s in Erwin, TN. He keeps up on the trail conditions between Hot Springs and Roan Mtn pretty well. He should be able to give you an up-to-date accounting. I myself am heading back up in a few weeks to hike from Sams Gap north to Erwin.
Good hiking!

Water was no problem for me this year. It started raining in late July and through August and September. I live in TN and we’ve had good rain this year and you shouldn’t have any problems. Check with the Mount Rogers Outfitters in Damascus, then Bob Peeples at Kincora, Uncle Johnny’s, Curtis at Standing Bear and you should be fine.

Papa Smurf is right this year is MUCH better than last year but still a bit dry I think we are down about 4 inches in rainfall so far as opposed to 12 inches down this time last year. Streams a bit low thru the smokies in spots but most still running.
