my bag is getting pretty wet from condensation in the tent, it is a down bag so i really don’t want it to get wet. can anyone suggest something to put on it for waterproofing?

Be careful what you do to waterproof your bag. You need to let your perspiration come out of the bag or the bag will get damp from the inside. I think you can go to your local outfitter and they have some spray on stuff from Nik Wax that is made for nylon fabric. In my tarp tent my bag will touch the tent wall at the foot end if I’m not carful and get wet. I tried putting a garbage bag over the end of my bag and it was soaked in the morning. If your tent is venting well you should not have a problem. If its not raining out leave the door open.

You can buy a bivy sack to go with your bag. Some bags come in a series. You can get the bag, a silk liner to fit and a bivvy sack. They can be very light weight to. I think Mountain Hardwear do a good one. I’m sure there are plenty of other good manufacturers who make them.

This may sound a little on the smarta** side, though not intended, but try venting your tent better. Set up with the tail end facing the prevailing wind and open all of your vents. I use a CD-clip flashlight tent we used on our hikes and never had a problem with condensation.

bivy sacks and spraying nik wax will only add to the condensation factor…condensation comes from within not from the outside of your bag. you need to have your bag breate better or your tent vent better…do not dress too warm when going to sleep, sleep with bag zipper open,no rainfly when possible. if you keep getting condensation it could be because your bag is too warm and you clash with the outside cold…window effect, warm inside cold outside equals lots of moisture… you need to find the happy medium for your body…:cheers  nitewalker

You can buy something at an outfitter, it comes in a grey bottle, pump spray, and is used for the outside of breathable jackets. I used this on my down bag and it worked fine.

Only apply it to the top and foot of the bag and then throw it in the dryer per the directions on the bottle.

Do as the other posters noted and try to vent your tent more. Also, when you take a break during the day, air your bag and throw it in the sun to dry it off.
