Hello,
It sounds like Waterton opened right on time. Does anyone have any details on the trail conditions of segment 1 of CT?
Thank you!

Was just up the canyon on Tuesday, and the surface on the road has been freshly graded, and is quite smooth. Lots of activity now - tons of bikes, fisherman, runners and walkers. I’m not sure when in “spring” they plan on closing again for the 3 week period to remove the equipment, but I would assume it will be before unofficial CT thruhiking season begins. The portion of Segment 1 after the water board road has snow on it, and it gets deeper farther into Seg. 1. Melting is occuring, but this is early March, so we are due a few more heavy snows. Hope some of this helps. TG

Canyon closed April 2 - 22 for equipment demobilization. Won’t interfere too much with hiking season. FYI only. TG

Is the Waterton Canyon section of the trail nicer than the temporary start last year? I really enjoyed the temporary segment.

^^ Right, I felt the same way. Seems like the temporary start from Roxborough might be the way to go for non purists

If I recall the good thing about Waterton Canyon is that it is very easy to get to from the airport and not to expensive. Like 15 bucks.
hmmmmm
