Waterton Canyon

If all goes well, and there are no delays, Denver Water Board has announced March 31st as an opener for Waterton Canyon. They may have some intermittent closures in April to remove equipment, but it seems for now that we are good to go for this hiking season. Good news for all.

Thanks TrailGuy, good topic. WATERTON CANYON IS TO OPEN MARCH 1 acc. to what we’ve heard. A three-week closure sometime thereafter, when the ice melts off the reservoir etc, to remove the barge and heavy equipment. Hoping that Denver Water will refresh their site page (link below) so all can obtain updates:

I called the Colorado Trail Foundation last week. The person on the phone said that Waterton Canyon will be closed for 3 weeks sometime in 2012 so that all the equipment can be removed. Right now, they don’t know when that 3 weeks will be; watch their website for current information.

Pardon my mistake - March 1st is the correct projected opening date right now. If I understood the communication correctly, they are going to use the 3-week de-mobilization closure before the height of hiking season. My guess would be April or May. FWIW
