I walked down and checked out Wayah Shelter yesterday (Franklin, NC). It was untouched even though there were burned areas on all sides of it. I assume it is due to the metal roof on it. The tower on Wayah Bald got hit severely; all of the wood burned away and only the stone is left. The AT formed a kind of fire break on the way to the shelter. The right side was burned and the left side was untouched. Siler Bald looked untouched. Burningtown Gap was untouched and Cold Springs Shelter looked fine from the Gap. Much of the fire burned leaves and brush but left the trees fairly unscathed.
