n? I don’t mean difficulty. I mean what section is bland and uninteresting. Which part could you skip because its no different than a heavily travel tourist trail next to a bunch of car campers.

The worst part of the Trail is when you reach the end and the hike is over. Don’t skip any of it, you may only get one chance for a hike like this.

Yep, I agree with Bo. That’s always my worst day on the trail…the last day, the end of an adventure. But then I remember I can go eat some fried chicken and I’m all better.:happy

Some of the ugliest woods i’ve ever seen. Did love the climb out of Palmerton though. And the towns.

definitely Pennsylvania. For wildlife, I saw all of two deer and that was it. And you’re at such a low altitude that the views aren’t too spectacular. And from Port Clinton to DWG, there can be the best views all around you, but there are too many rocks around that you aren’t able to look past your next step.
#2 might be Connecticut, I guess, but nothing really compares to Pennsylvania.

The year I did Connecticut & Massachusetts (Y2K) I thought it was pretty nasty. Not well maintained, run-down shelters, hard to get a hitch from all those NYC and Boston yuppies vacationing in the oh-so-trendy (expensive) Berkshires.

YMMV. I’ve heard others say they LOVED these two states.

Parts of PA as noted above were among my least favorite too, but I think the state as a whole gets a bad rap.

I found the worst part of the AT to be Indiana. Trail was poorly marked. Hardly any blazes. Lots of road walking and I always seemed to wind up in a Walmart parking lot. I was really relieved when I got to Iowa. Say has anyone seen my GPS?

Huff, you were on the ADT not the AT. That pretty much sums up Indiana segment of ADT.

Actually we stopped every 8 miles at a local general store and drank coffee with the locals. It was a good way to catch up on the local gossip and get directions to the next general store.

I’m with you you Stumpknocker, it was all good. I did get some views from the section between Port Clinton and DWG 0101. Dan’s Pulpit had a view and wasn’t the Pinicle on Hawk Mt. a great view? I have to admit the rocks between PC and DWG were awesome. I bought a new pair of Vasque boots in PC and when we got to DWG I hitched a ride to Hoboken to the Campmor store and got them replaced. They were cut to shreads.

all good? really? The original question was to judge the worst state on the Trail, and there’s no way to compare Pennsylvania to the Whites, Maine, Tennessee or anywhere else.
yes, there were two or three views in Pennsylvania, but since you’ve got to walk about 280 miles to get through the state, I was hoping for more then one view a week. But yes, the Pinnacles was a nice view. I had a good time up there, and I’ll ignore the fact that the Trail takes you seven miles out of the way just to see it.
