What is the weather like out on the JMT? I’m planning a hiking in late Aug, early Sept and was wondering what temperatures I should expect.

nice time of year to do it. water will be low, bugs will be sparse. afternoon thunderstorms (which often come later than afternoon, but sometimes don’t come at all, and can easily be hailstorms up high) will still be happening. daytime temps will be HOT down low, but on most of the JMT should be just warm. overnight it can easily go below freezing, especially up high. you’ve probably heard this advice already, but try to schedule your days so that you’re going up a pass in the morning. that way it’s cool while you’re working hard, and warmed up by the time you start downhill. you also lower the chance of getting caught in a storm while going through the pass.
