Does anyone know what the weather conditions have been like in the southern portion of the AT, like in GA/NC? Going to get started in three weeks (from today!).

Most NOBO’s start at the earliest in early March, because of the weather on the AT. You starting at close to the end of March, should have fairly good weather, although it may be a little chilly for a week or so. By the time you get farther north, the weather will have warmed considerably—that is why, most AT thru hikers are NOBO’s, i.e. to take advantage of the weather as it warms up south to north. Good hiking and Good Luck.

I hiked from Neel’s Gap to Standing Indian Mt. on Feb 17-23. I had freezing rain, fog and ice, beautiful sunshine and temps in the 50’s, rain and fog, and lastly, a severe storm with 40-60 mph winds that dropped the temp from 61 to 19! All this in one week! Be prepared for all the above.
