I am planning to hike about 840 miles on the “official” (CDTA route) Continental Divide Trail in Colorado and southern Wyoming this year.
I plan to do most of this in one or two long trips starting by mid-June, but I would like to start out doing weekend trail sections beginning with Memorial Day Weekend.
My girlfriend (Red) can’t take off that much time from work this summer, but she would like to come out from Denver to join me for some weekend backpacking during the summer.
We would be interested in having other hikers join us for weekend section hikes on the CDT, requiring a second vehicle for car shuttling. I generally prefer to backpack about 20 miles per day.
The first section we would like to tackle this year would be the joint Colorado Trail/CDT route going 57.6 miles from Hwy. 82 to Copper Mountain (or 50.5 miles from the Mt. Massive/Mt. Elbert trailhead to Copper Mountain) in three days for Memorial Day weekend. Snowpack might warrant the use of snowshoes for this first trip.
Over the following three weekends, we may do weekend hikes of CDT sections heading south from Hwy 82 or north from the Gold Hill trailhead. Later, Red may come out to meet and hike with me en route for some other weekends.
Distance walkers who might be interested in joining us for weekends on the CDT are welcome to drop me a line at homelessontherange (at) yahoo (dot) com or reply to this thread.
Cheers,
