Have there been a reported cases of it on the trail last/this year? Apparently, the elderly, and those with weak immune system are the most susceptible. But it still worries me…:o

If you listen to our culture you would not get out from under your bed. Oh, wait, there might be Hanta Virus under there. I heard that Bin Lauden is on the NJ section of the AT spreading Lyme Disease.:bawling

NOT OFFICALLY… I had BOTH West Nile and Lyme but the hospital in NH only put the diagnosis of Lyme on my medical chart. Per my doctor it was BOTH. She says that hospitals are reluctant to state that diagnosis as there is a ton of paperwork that must follow per the CDC. Not to mention that tourist areas do not like to have that kind of publicity.
I was feeling weak for a number of days. By Franconia Notch I had a headache that wouldn’t quit, it became like there were expolsives going off. I passed out on the B&B front porch. An ambulance took me the hospital where I stayed for 4 days getting pumped full of IV antibiotics and fluids. I had to have a CT of the head and a spinal tap.
Is it something that has me worried? NOT enough to keep me off the trail. I’ll be back out there. YES, I’ll probably use a little more deet. We have West Nile here in FL so what is a person suppose to do… live in a bubble?

There isn’t anything short of my budget that will stop me, but it is a concern to me because I suffered severe head trauma in ‘01’ with major brain swelling. I don’t know how well my noggin would like a case of encaphalitis…:x
