I carry lots of protection. I carry DEET for protection from bugs, food to protect me from hunger, iodine to protect my water, a bag and rope to protect my food from bears, plastic bags to protect things from getting wet, clothes and a sleeping bag for cold, Tobasco to protect from bland food, Frogg Toggs and a tarp for protection from rain. Then there’s other stuff for protection from chafed legs, chapped lips, dirty hands, poor oral hygiene, and toilet paper is a form of protection too. Shoes protect my feet and socks protect my feet from my shoes.
I guess everything I carry is for protection.

Ask all of the folks that were murdered, raped, assaulted or robbed in the last 30 years on the AT. There’s quite a few you know.

Here we go Clip! You opened up THE can of worms. Evil guns, scared misinformed liberals are gonna go off.

I carry a gun because I have a tiny penis and I’m afraid of the deep dark woods with all the scary bunnies and birdies! :bawling

You may not need a gun, but I’d like the option of having a weapon. Better than ending up as strips of “sapiens filet” for ursus arctos horribilis, or americanis.
By the way I’m not the JBL who has posted on Whiteblaze, just a troll looking to stir up some trouble here. :evil

Just as an aside, I’m sure that many many more people die in this country due to gun accidents than bear attacks.
Whining Liberal Whacko
I picture some duly “protected” individual, fumbling thru his pack in the face of a wild bear attack, looking for a weapon that would only have enough power to commit suicide with as he crapped his pants!
The odds of stopping a bear that is intent on harming you, with a gun you could carry in your pack is extremly small. It would require a perfect brain stem,or spinal cord severing shot.
Your avg. grizz can cover ~100 yds @ 45 mph with it’s heart exploded.
When in alaska the locals carried a sawed-off 10 gauge for protection while fishing. So if your taking your glock take plenty of salt you may end up eating it.
