I was just wondering, what other Hobbies/Activities do other hikers enjoy i.e. Canoeing, skydiving, fishing, woodworking?

I cycle (road and mtn), travel (around the country mainly), play at photography, kayak occasionally, collect an astonishing amount of audio equipment, and play in the local symphony.

those are the major ones anyway.

Well, writing is a big one, and I often do that while I’m hiking. Or when I’m in camp, that is. Love to read, which I also often do when I’m done hiking for the day. Canoeing and flat-water kayaking, when I have access to one or the other (don’t own a boat yet). And eating sushi. Does that count as a hobby? It’s an expensive hobby, so I don’t do that very often.

Nummy nummy, Kitty. We also love the canoeing, long haul bike trips, beer brewing and whatever else post thru hikers are supposed to do. Also when inclined I do black and white photography at home…which is almost never. Anyone want to paint a house?

I geocache with my gps which helps be to get out and hike a little.

Remember to ‘Cache in/Trash out’, no digging, and nothing should be visible to anyone else!

I coach youth basketball, boys 7th and 8th grades, and girls 5th grade, and am the librarian at one of my kid’s schools. Also collect early AT and Katahdin material like maps, guides, books, magazine articles, and postcards. I retired from Bell Labs at 43 and have since started volunteering to keep busy, including trail work and helping with the ALDHA Companion’s Maine section.
I wouldn’t eat raw fish if’n ya paid me!

first love is hiking, of course. then biking (road, mainly-where i’m from mountain bikes are doing a lot of damage to some pretty sensitive areas); learning american sign language; growing vegetables; playing & watching baseball. I haven’t done this but geocaching sounds like a lot of fun and i’m trying to get my husband into it!

TJ aka Teej: I’m curious-- would like to know how someone is able to retire at the age of 43. I estimate that after I return to work after raising my kids I will be working until I am approximately 95.

Seems like a lot of hikers are closet golfers. I play golf as often as possible (HCP 14), surf-fish along the La. Gulf coast, and enjoy exercising (weightlifting) to keep in shape.
