Whats 15 bucks to you

I have made a new resolution to donate 15 bucks a month
to any organization or website that supports hiking on the appalachian trail, I figure as a good christian that doesn’t go to church or confession anymore, I could support what really matters … and thats my love of the trail. 15 bucks is my bar tap for 2 hours and I won’t be promoting pedophiles by putting my cash in their church basket. I am still here in Chicago and can’t wait to be on the trail and hiking again. However at my easy pace I need to make money for my next adventure, and regain my identity (lost wallet). Why am I telling you this … because maybe for those that don’t donate, maybe they will think about it. 15 bucks for me means giving up 1 meal out a month, or 2 hours of drinking … how about you?

how would anybody like to match my donation a month of under 10 dollars to go to trail journals directly in the hopes they spend the money to upgrade to a speedy server. I could never live with out my journal reading, (and yes I read yours Guiness man) but faster is better, or am I the only one on 56k.

You bring up a topic that I’ve thought about several times. Trailjournals is such an excellent resource for the hiking community. It appears Leif and Zipdrive donate their time and money provide this great site. It’s a lot of work to keep a website of this caliber operating.

I would like to suggest that they put a link on their website to allow people to make a donation via PayPal. Or even possibly a donation page with several different options to allow people to support the site using various payment methods.

As popular as this website is, I’m fairly sure they would receive a lot of support.

I am all for donating to a good cause, especially when the cause is the Appalachian Trail. This forum topic has had me thinking about what $15.00 has meant to me in the past. First of all, I would have to say that my favorite charity was “me”!! As a matter of fact every moment of every day was about me; however, I eventually got sick of me and tried to destroy myself. Now many things have saved me from myself, most of which I won’t bore you with, but the biggest thing that has saved me is the hiking community that utilizes Trailjournals and other various hiker websites. I, in the past, thought I didn’t need anyone, but the reality is that I need people in my life…you people to be more accurate, and if that costs me $15.00 a month to stay in touch with the people who help keep me grounded each day and have taught me that there is a power greater than myself, well, just tell me where to send the money. I love you all…Lunchbox

I’m all for donating to support the wed site as I have other sites. But only if the site is used to aide new hikers in planning their trip and support of the AT. Not as a bashing board or for policlital reason. comer
