Dear Guys

I have two months next year which I can go hiking. What is the best time to start on the PCT?

Which end is best to start?

thanks

What kind of experience are you looking for?

If you want to meet and hike with other PCT’ers, then start at the southern end near the end of April or beginning of May.

If you want a solo experience, watch the snow levels for the stretch of trail you want to hike, then choose a starting date based upon the melt/runoff.

Personally, I’d try to hike near/around other hikers. In my opinion, long distance hikers are the most interesting, diverse group of people you’ll ever meet. You’ll no doubt make life-long friends of people you may hike with for only a few days. The comaradarie with long-distance hikers is exceptional. Plus, a lovely view, tough day or an exciting pass are a lot of fun when shared with other like-minded people!

Dear Yogi

Thanks for the advice. I have heard that you had been for one or two strolls yourself. I was guessing 29 April so this confirms.

Have had your guidebook recommend most highly so will have to purchase.

:cheers
