Where to buy fuel along the trail?

As I finalize may of the small details of my SOBO thru-hike which will be starting on July 10th 2003 I have found a few questions I myself can’t answer. One of the most major ones is where if anywhere and how if possible will I be able to get white fuel along the trail.

Thanks for you replies,

I assume you mean White Gas (aka colman fuel)?

Everywhere. Get a Companion or WF’s THruhiker’s Handbook; they label every place that sells it. Hostels and outfitters are the most likely spots, but some groceries have it too.

If you stay at the Comfort Inn the hardware store next door sells by the oz…or the outfitter. We found lots of non standard place with all types of fuels. Just ax.

If you are starting SOBO in July, you will be hiking a lot of the AT when many of the hostels have closed for the season. However there are a lot of coleman lanterns and coleman camp cookstoves out there. Best to just ask enough folks and you’re almost certain to find some. Lots of hunters and fishermen along the trail use it, and lots of motels have a supply of it plus other places too. Hope this helps.

I never saw any coleman lanterns or stoves, but there is plenty of fuel along the trail it should be no problem.
