Where to go? - The Colorado Trail

My boyfriend and I are headed to Colorado in early June and looking for a good place to backpack for 5-6 days. We’re pretty novice backpackers, but in good shape and up for a decent challenge. We’d like to stay on the northern half of the trail b/c we’re driving from Missouri. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Sections 4 - 6 would give you a good 5-6 day/10ish miles a day backpacking trip… Below is a link to some good info… I can do some pick-up and drop off if you let me know early enough… Have fun…

Thanks Ken! I was looking at 4-6 also. I’m going to talk to a couple of friends about a pick-up and drop off, but if they can’t do it, we may very well take you up on your offer!

A couple of random questions about the trail…are fires allowed? Also, are firearms allowed (obviously for protection only)? He has a conceal/carry and it transfers to Colorado, I was just wondering specifically about the trail.

Fires are allowed in most if not all locations, but care is required because of fire danger. I’ve hiked and backpacked all over Colorado and other locations/states (except Montana and Alaska where I may feel differently because of Brown bears) for many years and never felt the need to have or wished I had a firearm on the trail… I don’t know if there is an issue with having one, I don’t think so, but I don’t recommend it as at all necessary on the CT. Have fun…

Be sure to use existing fire rings - we don’t neeed any more of them. Not much need for a firearm on the trail. Bear spray works better than a gun and the bears along the CT are generally still very wild and not a problem.
