We are going to be thru-hiking the PCT and wonder where is a good, safe place to leave our packs while we do the climb to the summitt of Mt. Whitney from Crabtree Meadows or the ranger station. Is there someone at the ranger station all hours to keep an eye on packs? Any suggestions…?

There are bear boxes at Crabtree which is where I left my pack, however, I’m not sure if this is technically o.k or not. A lot of people leave their packs at the junction on the trail crest, which requires carrying your pack up the main climb, but you’ll be in such great shape by then that it won’t be too bad. You also run the risk of marmots that way but plenty of people do it and nothing happens.

We left our tent set up, with gear inside. We left food in the bear box. No problems.
