Where to post? - Appalachian Trail

Hi all. I’m looking for a bit of advice. My thruhike was interrupted last year when my husband (and hiking partner) fractured his heel. We had 430 miles to go, and I’m heading back out soon to finish. Where should I post it? As Hammock Hanger wrote once, I’m now a section hiker (wow-that doesn’t feel good to say), but finishing with a thruhiker heart.

-Chipping away at it again : )

Well…just…post it here! Get Leif to set you up and if you have time fill in the part you’ve done as far as journals go and then just go for it. Like you never left. We don’t care, just ask Sue-HH. She’s started more times than a broken record.

Hi Chipper. Glad you’re planning to finish–that’s inspiring for those of us who are journal-followers!

I’m guessing by your question you mean should you continue posting under your 2002 journal, or start a 2003 journal. Leif & ZipDrive have allowed journalists to display “my other journals” right on their current journal page–that way, if you start a 2003 journal, it would be linked to your 2002 entries.

Another option is to go back to your 2002 journal and re-set it to be a 2003 journal. That would put you on the list of current hikers, but would remove you from the 2002 list.

Of course, you could also just continue to update your 2002 journal as-is, but I don’t think you’d get as many people following your progress (they wouldn’t see your journal in the listing of 2003 hikers).

Whatever you decide, it’s great to see you getting back on the trail! Happy hiking. --TR

Yes, Teddy, I was wondering about the whole 2002/03 thing. Plus, I was feeling a bit funny about putting my journal in there with the “real” 2003 thruhikers. I’ll start a new 2003 journal with the 2002 link listed.

Thanks for the encouragement, guys!

You may not finnish the AT in one year but you will still be a 2000 miler which is an impersive feat. Don’t short change yourself. Get out there and hike. Remember it’s your hike not matter how you finnish it’s all good.
