Can someone reccomend a hotel near Amicola Falls where my non hiking husband and son (and I) can stay the night before I start my thru hike?. The Hike Inn is out of the question, I think you have to hike about 5 miles just to get to it.
thanks

The Amicalola Lodge is in the park. Call 800-864-9656 or 706-265-8888 for info.

My family ended up staying at the Lodge for 3 days in December when they came to pick me up after my sobo. We loved it! Also I heard a rumor that the AT was going to be extended to include the approach trail, making the starting point a more “tourest friendly” place. Don’t know when this will happen tho.

check out the hiker hostel. they have a shuttle from there to springer mountain. which should get you within .9 miles of springer to the parking lot on usfs 42.

it would be real fun for your husband and son too, b/c there will probably be other hikers there getting ready for there big day too. your family would get to meet some of the people you’d be around for the next 5 months or so.

Great place to start your hike! you can even chill out for a couple of days and soak up the drama.

When I started my hike there were about 10 of us staying there. Half were thru hiking, two had just gotten off the trail and there were a couple of section hikers.
