Which book? - The Long Trail - Vermont

Hey…
So, I’m going to hike the LT NOBO starting somewhere between late June and mid-July. I’ve got a decent amount of outdoor experience, and am pretty much more or less going to wing it - but I figured I should probably get one of those guide books. Either the Long Trail Guide, or the End-to-Ender’s Guide. Anyone have any experience with both that could say which is the way to go? I doubt I’ll bring whichever book I get along, but I think for pre-hike reading and for any maildrops I do it would come in handy. Thanks for any help, hope yall have a good one…

Both books have their purpose. I carried the LT Guide. I didn’t even know the End-to-enders guide existed until one of my friends pulled it out. The LT Guide is more specific about the trail (large-scale ambiguous maps, decidedly optimistic trail descriptions) while the end-to-enders is more about towns and cool little factoids along the way.

actually I just checked out the GMC website and the new book has newly revised full-color maps, trail profiles, and (no doubt optimisitic) trail descriptions.

It just breaks my heart to see them put out a useful guide like that. I might just have to go back and hike it again… :bawling

I hear you H.H. When ever I have plenty of time off this summer and the new book is tempting me to hike the LT again. We’ll see

I have the new book in hand. Of course the new shelters and a few relocations are added but the rest of the trail description is largely based on the previous edition. The maps are much better with color. The elevation profiles are a nice addition, profiles can be good when not taken to literally. I like that the maps and section mileage sheets are now at the beginning of each section chapter instead of all the way in the back of the book. Less page flipping when using the book.

The end to enders guide is great too.
