i am planning another try at the ptc next year and have 90% of the gear and then some (which i’ll post later)

I have 4 packs to chose form and cannt decide which to use

1st Kifaru express w/ added pouch to get me to 3000cu 5lbs-small and tuff. can fit all gear, water and bear vault

2nd A “mod” Large Alice Pack (added pockets, snow collar, reinforced stiching, buckels and subspention) 5000cu plus-had since i was in the marines-can haul everything with alot on room to spare and a dream
8lbs’ish

3rd REI cruise ul 3.2lbs-can fit all gear-not to sure it holding up 3000cu because its alittle tight

4th Gregory z55 (lg) alot of bells, can fit all gear, fits nice, not sure of design 3.5lbs’ish-nice on my frame

im looking at 10 to 12 lbs of gear minus food/water
also im kinda tall 6’ 3"-looking at total weight to be no more than 40 or so pounds

so any input would be welcomed

Your packs are all too heavy for your gear and quantity of miles, imho. You’ll average 20 miles a day, and with the gear you have planned you’ll average carrying less than 20 lbs. total. I think you need a 5th option: a lighter pack. Check out ULA for starters. Others will have more ideas.

Dana Designs has a new, light one with large capacity, Granite Gear is solidly built with a lifetime warranty, ULA of course, everyone in '07 was using them, Gossamer Gear is still around.

There have got to be others.
