What kind of conditions can I expect in the Whites and southern Maine between October 8 and 15?

Weather.com says mid to high 30’s for nightime low’s, but thats based on Gorham, which is 3000-5000 feet lower than the Whites and Mahoosucs. It could definately dip below 20 around the presidentials and snow is very possible. Not sure if the huts are still in operation, a couple might be open. I’d have full winter gear but it looks like you’re in for some very warm and sunny days for this time of year. Have fun

Everyone was fight for camping spots two weekends ago. I was stuck camping on col south of Mt.Madison in a storm. Not fun.

Days were warm though. Summited Madison and Adams in a T-shirt and shorts.

Weather in the Northern NH and western Maine mountains can vary a lot in early Oct. Gloriously sunny days with moderate temps can be quickly followed by cold rain or even early winter-like weather. You have to be prepared for a variety of weather. Despite the threat of cold and wet weather, foliage season is still one of the most poplular times to hike here.
Not all of the Huts are closed today. Lakes of The Clouds and Madison did close on September 19th but the rest still offer full service through breakfast on October 10th. After the 10th Lonesome Lake, Zealand Falls and Carter Notch Huts will be open for the selfservice season which goes through Spring '05. A caretaker is in residence and hikers cook their own meals in the hut kitchen.
