An FYI to the Class of 2010…The former Whitewater Trout Farm is now a Wildlands Preserve Ranger Station. I was there this weekend to day-hike the PCT from the Whitewater River to Mission Creek and back. The new preserve welcomes hikers (the Trout Farm did not) and is .5 miles from the trail. The trail intersection is well marked. I spoke to the ranger who indicated that hikers can camp there free. They have a large lawn area with a lot of trees, concrete picnic tables, and a restroom. They don’t accept resupply packages and there is no store. The larger trout ponds are still there and full of fish, but they don’t allow fishing.
It’s about 9 trail miles north of I-10.
