I am starting on the southern end of the trail about the 25th. Is anyone else going to be out there at the same time? Planning to hike until work starts again----at least 5- 6 weeks

Well, everyone so far is either too far ahead --or too far behind. We most likely won’t run into each other. Have a great hike. Maybe see you at the Aldhawest Gathering in Oregon in Sept . Marmot

I wonder if your situation is a “first”, Brian - husband and wife. My daughter and I are doing it, a segment at a time.

Ken and Marica Powers (Gottawalk) did it in May/June 2008. See their journal.

At www.aztrail.org there is a thru hiker info page. I wish that AZT kept a “800 Mile Club” of finishers (section, bike or thru) list of some sort like other trails do. It would be one more reference in planning a trek. For instance, we met Silver on the PCT and realized after our AZT hike that he hiked. He would have been a natural for us to contact for info.

Along the same lines…Marmot, are you the Marmot we know from Aldha-west? Either way, have a good hike!

PS Ken and I will soon be hiking some AZT miles SOBO as we hike the GET from Phoenix to Albuquerque. It will be the trail that we will have hiked again but in the reverse direction. Picketpost is such a beautiful area, too.

Hi Marcia
Yes, It’s me. My planned trip to Turkey didn’t happen because the maps didn’t arrive. So, this trail is my last minute replacement. What a great replacement.I’ve been wanting to hike this trail since 1996.
See you in the fall

Dropped She-Ra and Nemo off at the border this morning.

PS My wife Shake 'N Bake and I (and our buddy Griz) thru-hiked the AZT in 2001. Marmot - who is this other “Slowride” of which you speak?

SloRide

I’m the other SlowRide (trailname from AT 2001)!!! I started at the border on March 1st and am in Pine today heading north. I’ve seen overnight backpackers 3 times in 27 days. Have fun out there!

Keep on truckin’! Plenty of room out there for all of us.
SloRide (trailname from PCT 1996 - used to have the “w” but got lazy - may spell it SloRyd as I get older).

If you did the CDT in 2003, then we met at the Silverton Post Office, as I was hiking the Colorado Trail southbound. A friend of mine had just sent me a steak general delivery and I was late picking it up!

Otherwise, there is another one of out there!

Take it easy…

SloRide I emailed you, but who knows if you got it. It’s fun to make a mental reconnection from the past.

I’ll be unicycling the entire Great Divide Mountain Bike Route this summer-- a real slow ride.

Perhaps an average of my 2 favorite modes of travel; bike and foot…

Take it easy,
