I am planning to hike the JMT this summer and was wondering who else is doing the same? I am leaving Cottonwood Lakes in late August and finishing at Yosemite in early September. All together, about 12 days of hiking.

Wayne,
Looking at doing the JMT this summer around late June with Tucson 03. I have done very little in terms of looking up what the JMT is about, if you have any great on line resource about this trail please share it. Or any recomended reading.

I’m shooting to start southbound with Grizzly Adam, Now or Never, and maybe one or two others around August 13th. I’m hoping to hike it as slow as my time off work allows, about 20 days or so, maybe longer if I can swing it. Why rush it?
Here’s a couple links I’ve found:

And one page of photos just to tantalize the senses:
Hope to see some of you out there!
PS: Any other good links would be appreciated!

I will be watching the snow reports but hope to start southbound in the second half of June. Plan on taking about 20 days and a couple of small side trips.
SA 03 - try some of the reports on trailjournals for info about what its like to be on the JMT.

There are a number of great JMT journals on the website. Although my 2004 journal had more of a “hiking with a baby” perspective, my 2002 journal (pre-child) gives a better idea of what it is like to hike the trail in a typical year, sans baby. Also check out Kelly Nesbit’s 2004 hike, and some of the other completed hikes on trailjournals. I also enjoyed Greg and Irene High’s 2000 journal http://hometown.aol.com/Mtclimbxs/Index.html. Enjoy.

I’m planning to solo hike ultra light from Happy Isles to WP leaving on July 22 and taking ten days. I’ve done many sections of the JMT but never the all at once. My journal is posted.

I plan to hike out of Yosemite on July 7, take about 31 days to get to Whitney Portal, with some nice side trips along the way. I hope there will be some trail blazers through the snow before I leave.
